(More customer reviews)Garland Godwin's musings, collected in "Prime Time" originally appeared in either "Prime Times" (obvious inspiration for the title of the book) or The Tryon (NC) Daily Bulletin. The former is a now-defunct monthly magazine published in Hendersonville whose target audience was retirees and seniors in western North Carolina. Garland has led, and still is leading, a fascinating life. He's a pilot, has built his own airplane, worked as an aeronautical engineer (helping to develop many of the planes now in commercial use), and served in the Armed forces during the Korean War.
Luckily for us, he has a sharp memory and an even sharper pen. When he recounts all his adventures and mischief, it's as though the reader is right there watching over Garland's shoulder. Even if you don't know the man or the subjects of which he speaks, you'll be drawn into his web.
Those who don't have a ton of time to devote to reading will find "Prime Time" to be just their cup of tea. Those who don't have that problem will find this book is several hours of wonderful diversion. While a few of the stories are in the form of serials (e.g., Pt 1, Pt 2), most are totally unrelated and all are just a few pages in length. Thus, a reader could peruse several chapters today, put the book down for a few months, and then resume without "losing the thread."
In "Prime Time" you'll read about his escapades in the service, romancing his life-time mate Fran, episodes from his scholarly years, and interesting events while working at Boeing. As I mentioned, you may not be familiar with each of the topics, but I predict all will be interesting for you to read.

This book is a compilation of the sixty columns by the author published in Prime Times! newsmagazine during the last five years of its life. The columns are widely varied in scope and subject matter, written more to entertain than to inform. If you do happen to learn something, the author hopes that you will still be smiling from whatever came before. Also included are some articles and essays from his aviation and music interests.Enjoy!
